The John Martin Heritage Festival

Guided Walk - The John Martin Trail

25 June 2011 10am-4.00pm

Walkers met at The Bridge, Church Street, Haydon Bridge
Staward Gorge

This was a wet day to begin with, so cameras were left at home for their own safety. Conditions improved as the day went on, so walkers were able to enjoy the expansive panoramas of the return leg of the walk.

An all day walk around the southern loop of the John Martin Trail, a moderately strenuous route of 11 miles. This popular walk covered the areas which influenced Victorian artist John Martin, born in the village, who became the ‘most popular artist of his day’.
